All About Me
I'm so glad you're here! My name is Sarah Blue, and I'd like to share a bit about myself and how Riverbend came to be...
With a lifelong love for art, hands-on work, and a constant thirst for learning (and a deep enjoyment of getting my hands dirty), my journey has taken some interesting turns. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 20 years. The first ten years, I enjoyed my work behind the chair, specializing in women's haircutting and color artistry in busy salons. But life was pulling in a different direction, and I felt a strong urge to explore a completely different kind of hands-on work, which led me back to school to earn a degree in Welding Technology in 2012. That welding degree opened up a whole new world for me, and I spent several years working my way up in the best sign shops in Northern Colorado. I loved the precision and artistry of metal fabrication and was proud to contribute to award-winning signage. By 2019, my skills and dedication led to my becoming the first female Production Forewoman.
Then came 2020, a year that brought significant changes for all of us. For me, as a mom to a son with Prader-Willi Syndrome, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic became an immediate and serious concern for our family's well-being. Faced with those potential risks, I made the difficult decision to step away from my established career in metal fabrication to prioritize the safety and health of my son. We ended up isolating for longer than most, building a new rhythm to our stay-at-home life together. During that time, I felt a strong pull to use the unexpected pause to learn and grow. My own dreadlocks, which I’d made myself, were in need of some serious TLC, and I knew there had to be better, more holistic ways to care for them than what I'd been doing. That curiosity led me to begin training in the Seienstyle method. What started as a personal journey to learn the best techniques for my own hair eventually blossomed into a new path, and in 2022, Riverbend Dreadlocks officially opened.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this new chapter has been meeting the incredible people who come through my studio. I truly love the connections I've made and the stories they share. Plus, the ability to organize my work schedule in a way that allows me to be fully present as a mom to my son – that's the biggest gift of all.
As 2024 came to a close, I realized that while my time behind the chair might shift with evolving needs at home, the spirit of Riverbend – the desire to create beauty and share things I love – is still very much alive. This led to the exciting expansion into Riverbend Dreadlocks & Gemstones in 2025, and I began my studies with The International School of Gemology. This new chapter allows me to share some of the crystals and handcrafted items that bring beauty, intention, connection, and a sense of magic to my own daily life here at home. It's my hope to offer these treasures to you, to help you create your own bit of sanctuary and feel more at home in your own skin and the spaces you inhabit. My commitment to ethical sourcing remains at the heart of everything I do, ensuring that the journey of each piece honors both people and planet. Riverbend is truly my happy place, a reflection of my journey, and I'm so grateful to share a piece of that with you.
