Rutile Inclusions: Genuine Rutilated Quartz features natural, needle-like inclusions of rutile. These should look organic and somewhat random, not perfectly uniform or arranged in an artificial pattern. The color of the rutile is typically golden, silver, copper, or reddish.
Fake Rutile: Be aware that some fake "rutilated" quartz is made with tinsel or other artificial metallic threads embedded in resin or glass. These are often very uniform, and is clearly unnatural.
Clarity & Variation: The quartz itself should range from clear to smoky. Be wary of quartz that appears unnaturally cloudy or completely opaque, as it might obscure artificial inclusions.
